We are recruiting - Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Peer Support Worker (part time)
  • Have you recovered from mental health difficulties during pregnancy and/or after the birth of your baby?
  • Can you communicate fluently in South Asian languages, particularly Urdu?
  • Are you passionate about helping other black, Asian and minority ethnic mums across Birmingham and Solihull who are experiencing perinatal mental health distress?

Many BAME families across Birmingham experiencing perinatal mental health problems face additional difficulties due to a variety of cultural and communication barriers.   We currently have an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our committed team in the brand-new role of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Perinatal mental Health Peer Support Worker.  Employed by Acacia, this innovative new role is attached to and will be based within the specialist perinatal mental health community team in East Birmingham.  The 2 key functions of the post include:
  • Providing individual peer support to BAME mothers referred to the NHS East and North Birmingham specialist perinatal mental health team.
  • Working together with the NHS perinatal mental health team to develop and deliver awareness raising to local BAME communities and health professionals  
Hours: 20 hours per week. Days of the week TBC with successful applicant.  
Grade:  £10 per hour
Initial contract until April 2020
